The subjective power of seeing 'what you want to see' is powerful. That might seem against the theme of the book but This is a great companion piece to 'The Secret. Highly enjoyable. Pam Grout's easy-to-do assignments and her funny, relatable stories lead you to re-examine beliefs about the hows and whys of life. These ideas laws get to the places were religion cannot -- a spirituality for the modern age. I'm still working on the experiments, but she's right so far.
I'm starting no. E-Squared challenges the reader to reconsider fundamental beliefs for positive change. Nothing wrong with that, though uncomfortable at times. But often a good read, fiction or non-fiction, pushes the reader to think outside of the box. The box, if you will, according to Pam Grout, might be what it is stifling. Excellent job in painting a picture of a better world. Even a skeptic might buy-in. Good practical application for those searching for rather fast results, proof if you will, but a bit ov A wonderful book to help rethink one's view of the Universe.
If you liked 'The Secret' then this book is a natural extension of that idea. We all have access to the field of potentiality, meaning that our thoughts create our reality. Grout does a fine job of putting it all into perspective, along with a dose of humor. This book is a fast read but it will take time to perform the 9 experiments she suggests.
Some worked better than others for me. I fully acknowledge that my own inner restraint I firmly believe that your mindset or mindframe determines a lot about your life.
And I am nothing but open-minded. But I was very disappointed in this book. It outlines several 'energy' experiments to prove how your thinking can determine your life. I tried several, and none of them worked for me. Though, I did not try the dowsing rod experiment. Of course, they do tend to be very general. If you ask for a blessing, what is the likelihood that something good will not happen to you in the next I admit to being skeptical at first, but there really is something to this.
Where this book succeeds is that instead of just giving out platitudes cough, cough The Secret Just when I had given up on one experiment and actually said out loud that it wasn't working, what I asked for in my intention happened in that very moment. I'm going to This book is a bit unrealistic and the experiements are surreal and difficult to implement.
It site the bizarre experience of individual and make it the rule of the day and encourages other to try the same. It indicates that if one try, the same can be repeated as a matter of fact. There is an element of uncertainity on what is being projected. This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to forecasting methods and presents enough information about each method for readers to use them sensibly.
Many texts are excellent sources of knowledge about individual statistical tools, but the art of data analysis is about choosing and using multiple tools. Instead of presenting isolated techniques, this text emphasizes problem solving strategies that address the many issues arising when developing multivariable models using real data and not standard textbook examples.
It includes imputation methods for dealing with missing data effectively, methods for dealing with nonlinear relationships and for making the estimation of transformations a formal part of the modeling process, methods for dealing with "too many variables to analyze and not enough observations," and powerful model validation techniques based on the bootstrap.
This text realistically deals with model uncertainty and its effects on inference to achieve "safe data mining". Recent groundbreaking discoveries in physics, including the discovery of the Higgs Boson and gravitational waves, have relied on chi-squared analysis and model testing, a data analysis method.
This is the first book to make chi-squared model testing accessible to students in introductory physics lab courses and others who need to learn this method, such as beginning researchers in astrophysics and particle physics, beginners in data science, and lab students in other experimental sciences.
For over a decade, Harvard University's introductory physics lab sequence has made chi-squared model testing its central theme. Written by two faculty members, the book is based on years of experience teaching students learn how to think like scientists by testing their models using chi-squared analysis. By including uncertainties in the curve fitting technique, chi-squared data analysis improves on the centuries old ordinary least squares and linear regression methods and combines best fit parameter estimation and model testing in one method.
A toolkit of essential statistical and experimental concepts is developed from the ground up with novel features to interest even those familiar with the material. The presentation of one and two parameter chi-squared model testing, requiring only elementary probability and algebra, is followed by case studies that apply the methods to simple introductory physics lab experiments.
More challenging topics requiring calculus are addressed in an advanced topic chapter. This self-contained and student-friendly introduction includes a glossary, end of chapter problems with complete solutions, and software scripts available in several popular programming languages that the reader can use for chi-squared model testing. A groundbreaking introduction to vectors, matrices, and least squares for engineering applications, offering a wealth of practical examples.
In all of his travels Captain Jean-Luc Picard has never faced an opponent more powerful than Q, a being from another continuum that Picard encountered on his very first mission as Captain of the Starship EnterpriseTM.
In the years since, Q has returned again and again to harass Picard and his crew. Sometimes dangerous, sometimes merely obnoxious, Q has always been mysterious and seemingly all-powerful.
But this time, when Q appears, he comes to Picard for help. Apparently another member of the Q continuum has tapped into an awesome power source that makes this being more powerful than the combined might of the entire Q continuum. This renegade Q is named Trelane, also known as the Squire of Gothos, who Captain Kirk and his crew first encountered over one hundred years ago.
Q explains that, armed with this incredible power, Trelane has become unspeakably dangerous. Now Picard must get involved in an awesome struggle between super beings. And this time the stakes are not just Picard's ship, or the galaxy, or even the universe, this time the stakes are all of creation. During the past decade there has been an explosion in computation and information technology.
With it have come vast amounts of data in a variety of fields such as medicine, biology, finance, and marketing. The challenge of understanding these data has led to the development of new tools in the field of statistics, and spawned new areas such as data mining, machine learning, and bioinformatics.
Many of these tools have common underpinnings but are often expressed with different terminology. This book describes the important ideas in these areas in a common conceptual framework. While the approach is statistical, the emphasis is on concepts rather than mathematics. Many examples are given, with a liberal use of color graphics. It should be a valuable resource for statisticians and anyone interested in data mining in science or industry.
The many topics include neural networks, support vector machines, classification trees and boostingthe first comprehensive treatment of this topic in any book. They are prominent researchers in this area: Hastie and Tibshirani developed generalized additive models and wrote a popular book of that title. Tibshirani proposed the lasso and is co-author of the very successful An Introduction to the Bootstrap. Skip to content.
